James began to show very early signs of magic at four years old, when he accidentally fell into the pool before knowing how to swim, and he floated to the top of the water unharmed. His magical accidents were few and far between after that, because his parents took great care to openly communicate what his magic meant and that he should not be ashamed of it. When he was eleven, he went off to Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor house, as his father and mother had been before him. James quickly befriended his fellow-Gryffindor, Sirius Black, and soon to follow, Remus Lupin. Sirius was like him in many ways, but not if you really got to know them. Sirius always seemed to have an ease about him, and though James tried to replicate it, he still got anxious about studying and girls in a way that Sirius never seemed to be, although because James was so close to Sirius, he knew things didn’t roll off of him as easily as he let on. Remus was almost the exact opposite, so sometimes James needed his shoulder to lean on more than Sirius. There were times when James was so discouraged about school, that he would contemplate leaving altogether and start up a muggle band, though he didn’t have much musical skill. He could hold a tune, but would never sing in front of others. When he got in these moods, it was Remus that pulled him out of it because of his natural kindness and his old soul. James found balance in both of his best friends.
Peter Pettigrew became their friend as well, but it was more that James felt sorry for him, and James had a bit of an ego. He liked the idea of having multiple friends, even if the kinship was not as mutual for him as it had been for Peter. Still, James would have laid down his life for any of his friends. And there were times that Peter seemed almost as sincere as Sirius and Remus, and James tried his hardest to feel the same way about Peter as the others, but it was difficult to crack the outer shell of Peter Pettigrew, or to truly believe he had anything deeper inside of him. The true test of friendship came when James and Sirius found out about Remus, and his “furry little problem,” or rather, the fact that he was a werewolf. James wasn’t sure exactly where the idea came from, whether it had been he or Sirius who had concocted such a plan, but they had decided to each become an animagus, thereby making Remus feel more comfortable in his transformed state. It was a nasty business, the process of figuring it out, and James had been to the hospital wing with grotesque horns growing from his head on more than one occasion. And the transformation into a buck also took a toll on his emotions. He went through a few weeks of the weepies that made Sirius almost gleeful for a time. He would still never forgive him for making him feel like such an arse for it, those were hard times. But they were also wonderful, as they officially created the Marauder’s Map and basically cemented their souls together in camaraderie. He was alright with the nickname of Prongs, he felt that no other title would have suited him...probably because he had huge prongs sticking out of his head whenever he transformed. They were geniuses, but naming creativity was not one of their strongsuits.
When James met Lily Potter, he thought she was snobby and too smart for her own good, but like any eleven year old boy, he wanted to impress her. He would show off for her in class, in the halls, and even in the common room, with his best mates around. Still, she did not seem to be impressed with his nerdy charm. She spent most of her time around Severus Snape, a greasy, dark-haired boy that James almost immediately disliked for one reason or another. They became fast enemies, and James enjoyed teasing him almost as much as his best mate Sirius did. But he was always filled with such mixed feelings whenever he toyed with Severus, or belittled him. At the moment of action, he felt great about it and that he could conquer the world, because who cared about some irksome nobody that kept glaring at him and obsessing over a girl who should have been with James. But afterward, when he was on his own, it was without fail that he felt some kind of guilt. He ignored the voice of his mother in his head that would chide him for being mean, whether he was provoked or not. And his father would have turned his head in shame. It was not how the Potter family should act, James could imagine him saying. But still, he was too proud to ever admit he had done anything so wholly wrong, when Severus gave as good as he got. James was on a mission to prove to Lily that “Snivellus” was not worth her time. He was very close with Sirius, so much so that his best friend moved into his house as a teenager when he was disowned by his parents. James never made Sirius feel like less of a person because of his family history, he always only made him feel loved and wanted. It was a scary time when Sirius was disowned. James was never exactly sure what went on behind closed doors in the Black family, and he still had yet to ask Sirius. He thought it best to leave well enough alone.
As for his love life...after many years of back and forth, between friendship and loathing, James miraculously charmed Lily into dating him. He was also the seeker for the Gryffindor quidditch team, thereby cementing his three loves...Lily, his friends, and quidditch, in that order. He was a fair student, but his classes could not compare to those three things in his mind. After graduation, James wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his life, mainly because of the growing population of death eaters and dark wizards in general. He knew he wanted to be with Lily and to keep her safe, so becoming an auror in a difficult and political time sounded like the wrong idea. He joined the Order of the Phoenix to help try and stop Voldemort and his supporters. But then Lily became an auror-in-training, and he thought that he had to be there to protect her, although she always insisted she didn’t need protection.
As for an overall personality description, James is fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and would do anything to protect them, even if it meant putting his own skin at risk. He is generally kind, unless he is feeling jealous or cornered, which happens especially when it has to do with Lily. He is a leader, unless Sirius is around, and then he is content to follow. He is level-headed now, more so than when he was a child, but he is not above bending or breaking the rules now and then to have a good time. He smiles often, is sarcastic and witty, and he is very dependable. He also has a good heart, but sometimes it takes time for him to admit he is wrong. He is handsome, but not conventionally so.
Currently, James is still close with all of his friends, but most especially Sirius, Remus and Lily. He sees Peter on occasion, but he’s lazy when it comes to contacting him. He is still technically dating Lily, but he plans on proposing soon, as soon as he can get a job and earn money. He’s just not sure if that job lies as an auror or not.[/PTab={background-color:#444; font-size:9px;padding:5px;color:#fff;tab-hover-background-color:#000;tab-selected-background-color:#000;}][/PTabbedContent={width:400px;color:#fff; font-size:9px;animation:fade;tab-hover-background-color:#000;tab-selected-background-color:#000;tab-background-color:#000;}]

James Charlus Potter was born as the only child to Nickolas and Emily Potter, on March 27th, 1960. His family is a pureblooded wizarding family, but he was never raised to care much for that sort of thing. James had a happy childhood, growing up somewhat spoiled because he didn’t have any siblings, and also because his mother and father had tried for so long to conceive, that they always saw James as their greatest blessing and accomplishment. James did not always follow the rules, but because his mother doted upon him so, he was rarely disciplined by her. His father was forced to be more strict because James needed instruction and guidance as a child, but he still got away with much. James often went on outings on his own, even at an early age. He found that he liked walking into the village at six years old, generally not telling his mother where he was going. Independence was freeing, and he never understood the harm in it. He always thought he was invincible. He also had an affinity toward muggles, mainly because they seemed just like him, but their lives were so simple. Some of his favorite memories involved going to the muggle village to see them fish or shop, ride bicycles. He always went home with a smile on his face, despite the scolding he knew he would receive.James began to show very early signs of magic at four years old, when he accidentally fell into the pool before knowing how to swim, and he floated to the top of the water unharmed.
