River was done with work, her arm was sore after removing five baby dragons from a man's possession who was trying to pass them off as some kind of Iguana. It was almost laughable, it was laughable as River didn't think that it was even possible that anyone would have believed that fire breathing Iguana's was something that was possible. They were now all on their way to a dragon reserve to be raised by several surrogate mothers who would take care of them. It was just one of those days. Now she was at a bar - which was a surprising feat all in itself as her co-worker had coerced her out because they thought she needed a drink, which she took one drink and had been clutching it for most of the night, not wanting to be rude by flat out refusing and didn't want to seem like she was shrill and wasn't capable of drinking at all. So there she was, listening to other happy individuals as they drank too much, and listened to the live band that was there.
She almost wanted to go and see if her sister was okay. Sure she was sort of - young but Willow handled herself a lot better than River did half the time and it would always leave River full of questions regarding her work - which was as the title stated, was Unspeakable. So instead she wandered away from her coworkers and took a stool at the bar. "Can I get a water?" she asked, because it was better than drinking - whatever she had. River looked at the gentleman on the stool next to her, he had been on stage - not but a few moments ago wasn't he? "You play the guitar right?" she knew about zero about music.

Dark in my imagination Music, there was nothing better in life than music as far as Marc was concerned. No matter what kind of mood you were in at the beginning of the day there was always some sort of music to help you out of a funk or to brighten your mood when you were down, music to help vent anger if you had any and even music to make a bright day better when it was already good. Luckily for Marc music was also one of the things he did best. He loved anything to do with music, especially making and playing it. From he'd been very little his parents had taught him how to play all sorts of instruments. They'd been a musical family and they'd often just grabbed whatever instrument was around to play and sing. It was a skill Marc was confident in. He had always been good at it and people had always seemed to enjoy listening to him when he was doing these things. It didn't matter if there was a piano, guitar, drums, whatever the instrument really though mostly with some sort of strings.
Today was one of those days where he got to do what he loved most, he was going to play at a bar near by and he could just lose himself in the piano or guitar and the song. He had been asked to perform as part of a band so that's what he was going to do, though usually he was on his own on stage. It was fun, and as he played his songs and the songs he'd been asked to do with the band he barely even noticed much around him. It was a good escape from the current war that was going on around them. At least for a little while he could forget all the troubles of the world and just live in the now, in the music and the pleasure the music gave him.
Unfortunately the band only had a limited time on the stage before they were done, and then he had to get off there and not play. However, he also loved to listen to pretty much any kind of music, so instead of heading home he headed over to the bar so he could just relax and have a drink while listening to the music. He ordered himself a beer and happily sipped from it a little, with no intention of getting drunk. Not tonight, there were some potions brewing at home and he couldn't afford not to be on his best focus when he was going to add new ingredients to them the next day.
For the time being he was so absorbed in the music he didn't really notice the girl next to him, but then she spoke and he turned to her with a smile. "Among other instruments" he smiled at her and turned a little on his chair so he could face her better, there was never an excuse not to give someone your full attention when they were talking to you after all. "I love music, so I play a lot of different instruments, but guitar/piano might be my favorites." he admitted before laughing a little. "Where are my manners, rambling on like that. I tend to do that when something is important to me." he added in an voice saying he was sorry for being rude. "I'm Marc, nice to meet you...?" The last sentence was clearly spoken in a way inquiring what her name was.

River wasn't social, she wasn't the kind of person who talked to anyone, not really, she didn't do strangers, she liked to talk to magical creatures who just stared at her like her cat or her owl, there was so many things that she rather say to them than anyone else. River was just someone who rather spend her time with - them than - people, this was simply a social experiment to see if she was really as dreadful with other people as much as she felt like she was and that was - hard for her, hard for her to sit there and pretend like she was interested in the conversations with everyone else. That she had to find something that she could common ground with everyone else, because there was a need for social interest and that meant that River would just have to do it. She would just have to find someone to talk to, and hope that they weren't just as completely worthless like herself. Her sister wasn't there which was sort of great - which her sister had no reason to be there, it was just mandatory for her to know and ensure that her social life wasn't about to be disturbed by her shadow.
So this was her trying, she had a drink in her hand to try and - figure out this whole experience that was supposed to be known as social drinking even if she wasn't actually drinking at all, and she needed to talk to someone and see how it went. Five minutes, then she could go home and hope that tomorrow would be another good day and her work would probably be terribly fascinating and then she would just - repeat the process, and see if she could get herself out there, meet new people that weren't her ex-fiancé who wasn't really all that interesting anymore. River needed her life to be - at least moderately normal, she needed to try and be a normal human, someone who went out and did things. She didn't know who to talk to first, that was sort of the life mystery, who to talk to at all really. There were drunk - drunker, too young to be drunk but more drunk than the rest of the drunks, girls - who weren't her thing, and then there were awkward men who were trying to hit on any female with a pulse that she glared at to go away.
Now she was trying with her seat neighbor, he didn't seem terrible, or didn't seem like he was interested in her beyond the fact that she was a person, and that was a good thing, and he was a musician, girls were supposed to be into that right? "Well that's fascinating." it sounded sarcastic and it was probably a little, she - just knew nothing about playing guitar, or instruments at all. She was also terrible at fake enthusiasm. "You're allowed to ramble, ramble all you want, erm - I'm River, like the body of water that flows, and not like something else that could be mistaken as a River. Like canal." she also apparently never made sense either or jokes.
